The Original Hello Dolly Cookie Bars

aka "Magic Cookie Bars"

These cookies have a few different names, but they are basically the same recipe.  Just spread the layers of goodies onto your pan and it's ready for the oven.  Baking doesn't get much easier than this, and the result is such a treat!

Layered with a graham cracker crust, nuts, chocolate and butterscotch chips, coconut, and sweetened condensed milk, this Hello Dolly Bar recipe will surely have people begging for more.

I used to make them without the butterscotch chips, and to be honest, I like them better that way.  But, certain members of the family (you know who you are) love the mixture of the two flavors, so I started adding them a few years ago.  No one has complained, in fact, they've become essential.  Ha!

My original recipe said to use a jelly roll pan, but that makes them so thin that they tend to fall apart, and you end up with much of it on the front of your shirt.   Believe me, you don't want to lose one bite of this yummy cookie bar!

Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 1/3 cups sweetened flaked coconut
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1 cup butterscotch morsels (optional)
1 cup chopped walnut or pecans
1 (14oz.) can sweetened condensed milk

Preheat oven to 350F or 325F if you’re using a glass baking dish.

Melt butter in a small bowl in the microwave on high for 30 seconds. Combine graham crackers with the melted butter. Place in an 9″ X 13″ baking dish. Pat the crumb mixture down evenly with your hands.

Layer the chocolate chips, coconut, and nuts on top of the graham cracker mix.  Slowly, pour the sweetened condensed milk over the entire mixture, making sure it's evenly distributed.

Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is light brown. Let cool completely before slicing.

Be encouraged!
